Don’t Yield to Fear! Wake up and Believe!

I was up early reading Mark 5 this morning in several versions. I love doing that, seeing what gifts each one has to offer.

One of them in particular spoke to my heart.

Jesus’s words always pierce our understanding as well as our hearts when we come to Him with a tender, vulnerable mindset.

Spending time thinking on His words can bring us so much reward.

In one version that I read, His words to a woman who had suffered for 12 years were as directive as they were comforting.

“Daughter, because you dared to believe, your faith has healed you. Go with peace in your heart, and be free from your suffering.”

He tells her how faith has worked in her healing and then tells her how to live the rest of her days.

We come to Him with our own personal, singular problem and He leaves us with a plan to heal the whole of us.  What a savior!

Just a paragraph or two later Jesus is told by a messenger from another man’s house that the little daughter of Jairus has died and there is no need for Jesus to come anymore.  But Jesus will have none of that!  He tells the messenger these powerful words that we would be right in heeding today, “Don’t yield to fear. All you need to do is keep believing.”

And then Jesus proceeds to perform the miracle that opened so many eyes…He brings that little girl back to life with these words,

“Little girl, wake up from the sleep of death.”

Wake up from the sleep of death!

Oh, yes!!

Indeed, let us all wake up from the sleep of death that paralyzes us and holds us back.  Let’s wake up and receive!!!

Let us feel whole again!

Let us dare to believe and let us heal!

Father, in heaven, create in us hearts to dare, courage to care, and faith to believe!  And then let us go forth with peace in our hearts and let us heal!

Amen. Let it be so!
