Throw Wide the Windows

Throw wide the windows!

Slide the glass door open!

Spring has burst through and set the calendar aright.

Listen!

Can you hear the sounds of spring in the marshes, along the hiking trails, in the matted woods, and on the walkway to your porch?

Tiny frogs and magnificent birds are singing the story of resilient rebirth, and restorative hope.

Can you see familiar signs of spring, coming up and through and out?

Linger along the path and find the tiny bluets playfully competing with regal bluebells. The white miner’s lettuce with their lavender stripes, residing alongside deep indigo violets and their Irish-gilded leaves, just beg to be noticed.

Tucked in and around nature’s piney mulch, and under the vining, they’re waiting … waiting to be seen.

Can you smell the fruity fragrance of grape hyacinths, or the musky smell of moss and loam?

Or the earthy scent of the woods’ prized leaf mulch?

Can you feel the heartbeat of lovers, holding hands… the pull of their attraction as they sway to the song of the nightingale? Can you remember your long ago shared whisper in the woods?

On days like today when breezes are so full and fresh and the rays of sunlight so brilliantly golden, my heart is filled with endless possibilities.

The outlook doesn’t seem so dire, the future not so bare.

There’s nothing like an unexpected breeze blowing through your hair to clear out weary cobwebs from the winter of despair.

There is promise all around and in the air.

It is playing with my heart and with my hair and I don’t care.
