Lent: A Season of Reflection & Preparation

The 40 days before Easter Sunday have always been a time of reflection and preparedness.

Lent and what it leads up to for me is the most sacred of all holy times.

I have done some of my most painful, worthwhile growing in this season.

Much can be said about the importance of reflection and preparation in the context of the 2020 Global Pandemic.

For now, I will just lay a few words down to ponder…

Who I was yesterday is not as important as who I am today, even though today may not look as bright.

I understand and appreciate that, yes, we have had to put much of our lives on hold, and we have lost far too much. The utter devastation and loss we have experienced as individuals, as a nation, and as a world will never be recovered.

The enormity of it all can never be overstated.

But all the while, during this loss, we have been growing, learning, stretching, giving, sharing, reaching.

We have not been stagnant.

Think of the growth of the seeds underground. There is so much happening even though we cannot see it. The land may look dead and barren, but underneath is magnificent, miraculous life, just waiting to spring up in “just a little while”.

If we have been preparing and we keep preparing, making a way for all that is happening out of sight, we will wake up one morning and realize we are past this dark winter, this challenging, life-changing year.

For change is occurring in us and all around us.

Good things are brewing.

Better times are coming.

And when they do, we may finally be in a position to appreciate all of that much, much more.

We may possess at that time the greatest perspective we have ever known in our lives.

We may have solved so many problems because a light was painfully focused on them during the darkness.

We may have the keys to unlocking some answers we desperately need.

Now is the season of reflection and preparation for what is to come!

Something to ponder…to reflect upon this Ash Wednesday and the next 40 days ahead.
